Interior Waterproofing in Lexington, KY

Handling the water from inside, for when digging up the outside of the house is impractical, too disruptive, or just not needed.

How an interior system works

An interior system does not try to stop water reaching the wall. It accepts that water arrives, gives it a controlled path at the footing, and carries it to a pump that puts it somewhere harmless.

That sounds like a compromise and it is, but it is a compromise that works, costs less than excavating, and does not require taking out your driveway, patio or mature planting to install.

When we recommend it

Most Lexington homes, most of the time. It is the default for finished basements, for houses where the problem wall is under a deck or against a property line, and for anyone who needs the problem solved without a month of disruption.

What is included

  • Perimeter drain tile installed at the footing, inside the slab edge.
  • Negative side waterproofing on the interior wall face.
  • Wall crack repair, injected and sealed before anything is covered.
  • Discharge to a sump pit and pump sized for the system.

Interior drainage system

  1. Groundwater collects against the footing and under the floor. The pressure pushes it through the cold joint where the wall meets the slab, and through any crack it finds.
  2. We break out a channel around the inside of the footing and set perforated drain tile in washed stone, pitched to the pump.
  3. Drainage board up the wall catches seepage coming through the block and carries it down behind the new concrete instead of out onto the floor.
  4. The channel is capped with fresh concrete, flush with the existing slab.
  5. Everything drains to a sealed basin with a half-horsepower cast-iron pump, which is what we set as standard.
  6. The discharge line carries the water above grade and well away from the foundation.

Common questions

What is the difference between interior and exterior waterproofing, and which do I need?

Interior work accepts that water is going to reach the wall, and gives it somewhere to go: a drain at the footing that carries it to a pump instead of onto your floor. Exterior work digs down along the outside of the wall and stops the water before it ever gets there. Interior costs less and is far less disruptive, and it is what most Lexington houses get. Exterior is the answer when the wall itself is the problem. Which one you need comes out of the inspection, not out of a phone call.

What are the signs my basement or foundation needs waterproofing?

White chalky residue on block, a musty smell that never clears, cracks that keep growing, rust at the base of appliances, damp patches that darken a day or two after rain, and humidity you can feel. Any sign of water damage or mold is worth an inspection before it becomes structural.

How long does a typical waterproofing project take?

Anywhere from three days to a week, depending on the scope of work and site conditions. You will get a specific timeline with your written scope rather than a guess over the phone.

Do you offer warranties for your waterproofing services?

Yes. Every system we install carries a lifetime labor warranty.

Water where it shouldn't be?
